Diabetes Awareness - Bloodmobile - Together with the facilities of the local faith community, the Lakeville Lions Club has assisted the Red Cross in collecting blood. Members assist with unloading the Red Cross truck, setting up the areas for sign up, waiting, donation, and refreshments. Additionally, members make deliveries of the collected blood to downtown hospitals and assist with reloading the truck Food Drive - An annual food drive, generally in October, when we collect food at our local grocery stores (Cub and Rainbow Foods) as well as neighboring stores. These food drives bring in over 3,000 pounds of groceries annually. Additionally, our club makes a substantial cash donation. Hearing/Sight & Sight First - Habitat for Humanity - Since 1999 the Lakeville Lions Club has supported Habitat For Humanity with donations of money and labor. Typically a donation of approximately $2,000 annually and 10 to 20 man days of labor. Scholarship - The Lakeville Lions Club Scholarship Committee review dozens of Lakeville High School students academic performance, extracurricular activities, and faculty comments and recommendations, and award up to five $1,000 scholarships annually to the selected students. Puppet Wagon - The Lakeville Lions Club has been the sponsor of the Puppet Wagon since its inception and continues to fund this important community activity for children. Each year the Lakeville Park and Recreation Department provides our club with a proposed agenda and budget to accomplish it. The budget includes equipment repair/replacement/expansion and puppeteers for the season. The five day a week schedule at the city parks attracts more than 3,000 children annually. |
